Pre-Law Faculty Advisors

Our Pre-Law Faculty Advisors teach and research in disciplines related to the study of the law. They are available to meet with students through in-person or virtual meetings to give advice on law-related courses offered at JU, internship opportunities, and preparing for the LSAT and law school application process.


Dr. Courtney A. Barclay, J.D.

Associate Professor, Communication

Dr. Courtney A. Barclay teaches courses in communication, social media, media law. She is an expert in First Amendment law. Her research, which has been presented at national and international conferences, analyzes emerging legal and public policy issues relevant to the use of technology and new media platforms, including chat bots, online data tracking, drones, and social media. Dr. Barclay earned her Ph.D. in Mass Communication and her J.D. from the University of Florida.

Professor Shelley Grant

Assistant Professor, Sociology

Prof. Shelley Grant teaches courses in sociology, including Criminology (SOC 305), Women and Crime (SOC 331)
Media and Crime (SOC 332), Juvenile Delinquency (SOC 380), Social Deviance (SOC 430), and Organized Crime (SOC 435). In partnership with 91成人AV's Communities in Schools, Prof. Grant leads a mentoring project that pairs JU students with local students in dropout prevention programs at Arlington Middle School, Ft. Caroline Middle School and Terry Parker High School. Prof. Grant is an expert in Criminal Justice, Juvenile Justice, and Gender and Crime.

Dr. Matthew Corrigan

Professor, Political Science

Dr. Corrigan teaches courses in the Department of Political Science. Dr. Corrigan received his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Florida and is a nationally recognized expert in American and Southern politics and the American presidency. He has published four books, as well as numerous peer-reviewed articles and chapters. His classes frequently cover topics that are highly relevant to Northeast Florida, including disaster management, downtown development, and growth of the millennial generation in our community.
