Using Your Veteran's Education Benefits

​​​​​All Department of Veterans Affairs chapters and tuition assistance are approved at 91³ÉÈËAV. This includes programs for Active Duty, Reservists, Veterans and Dependents. All majors, minors and graduate programs in our JU academic catalog are approved, with the exception of our Aviation Management with Flight Operations and Law programs. 91³ÉÈËAV proudly participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program, meaning the tuition cost is zero for veterans, spouses of veterans and dependent children who are 100% eligible under the Post 9/11 GI Bill®.

Accepted Benefits

Post 9/11 GI Bill® Program (Chapter 33)

Note: For Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Ch 33) students and VA Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (Ch 31) students, our tuition policy complies with 38 USC 3679(e) which means Post 9/11 and Veterans Readiness and Employment (VR&E) students will not be charged or otherwise penalized due to a delay in VA tuition and fee payments.  For eligibility consideration, a Post 9/11 GI Bill® student must submit a VA Certificate of Eligibility (COE) and a Veterans Readiness and Employment Student's counselor must submit invoices via the Tungsten Portal to both the school for tuition and fees and bookstore for books and supplies. [Please list all additional requirements your school will ask a student to satisfy which are permitted under 38 USC 3679(e)] Please see 38 USC 3679(e) for complete details.

Veteran, Spouse and Dependent Children

  • 100% eligible = Yellow Ribbon – veteran served at least 36 months of active duty service after Sept. 10, 2001
  • JU matches Yellow Ribbon
  • Tuition and Yellow Ribbon paid to school – up to full tuition
  • Book stipend paid to student – Up to $1,000 per academic year
  • Housing allowance paid to student – Up to $1,776 per month, more than ½ time

Active Duty and Spouse of Active Duty Member

  • 100% eligible – member has served at least 36 months of active duty service after Sept. 10, 2001
  • Tuition paid to school – Up to $27,120.05 per academic year
  • Book stipend paid to student – Up to $1,000 per academic year
  • Not eligible for housing allowance from VA GI Bill®

Veteran, Spouse and Children

  • Less than 100% eligible – veteran served less than 36 months of active duty service after Sept. 10, 2001
  • Less than 100% eligibility
  • Not eligible for Yellow Ribbon
  • Tuition paid to school – pro-rated on eligibility percentage
  • Book stipend paid to student – pro-rated on eligibility percentage
  • Housing allowance paid to student – pro-rated on eligibility percentage, more than ½ time

The Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship (Fry Scholarship)

Spouses and children of service members who died in the line of duty after Sept. 10, 2001

  • Tuition paid to school – Up to $27,120.05 per academic year at JU.
  • Book stipend paid to student – Up to $1,000 each academic year for books
  • Housing allowance paid to student – Up to $1,776 per month per term, more than ½ time

Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA) Program (Chapter 35)

  • Spouses and children of Veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition, or of Veterans who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition
  • Monthly amount paid directly to the student for full-time training

Montgomery GI Bill® Active Duty (MGIB/AD) Program (Chapter 30)

  • Active Duty and Veterans who served on active duty for at least two years
  • Monthly amount paid directly to the student for full-time training

Montgomery GI Selected Reserve (MGIB/SR) Program (Chapter 1606)

  • Selected Reserve, including the Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve and Coast Guard Reserve, and the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard
  • Monthly amount paid directly to the student, for full-time training

Veterans Readiness and Employment Benefits (VR&E) Program (Chapter 31)

  • Veterans with a disability rating of 20% or more
  • Counseling, training, education and job placement assistance
  • Tuition, fees and books paid to school – full amount

Tuition Assistance (TA)

  • Active duty
  • Tuition – paid to school
  • Tuition and fees – up to $4,500 per FY

  • 40% of the tuition paid by JU
  • 60% of the tuition paid by Children of Fallen Patriots foundation

NROTC

  • Full scholarship
    • 4-year scholarship = full tuition, fees and stipend for full 4 years
    • 2 & 3-years scholarships = full tuition, fees and stipend for 2 or 3 years
  • Non-scholarship – no tuition or fee benefit
  • Minor – no tuition or fee benefit​

ROTC

Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program (MECP)

  • Active Duty Navy
  • Obtain BSN Degree
